The Cirebon Contingent is firmly appearing at Popda XIV West Java, getting an injection of enthusiasm from the Mayor

Cirebon City, Controversinews | Cirebon Mayor Effendi Edo released the Cirebon City contingent who will compete at the 14th Regional Student Sports Week (Popda) of West Java in 2025, Saturday (9/13/2025). This event will take place on 17 to 29 September in the city of Bandung and Karawang Regency.

In his remarks, the Mayor of Cirebon expressed his pride for the readiness of young athletes who would carry the good name of the region.

He stressed that participation in Popda was not just a match, but a momentum to prove the quality of sports coaching.

“Pray for everything for children who fight. Hopefully from the results of the training that has been undertaken, it’s time to show that the city of Cirebon can be champions,” he said.

The Mayor believes that this year’s Cirebon city can win many medals. He reminded athletes to be serious in competing.

“This is an event to achieve achievements and bring the name of the city of Cirebon greater through sports,” he said.

The Mayor also emphasized that the local government continued to strive to improve sports facilities and infrastructure to be more adequate for athletes. He did not forget to appreciate the role of the trainers, coaches, parents, and the Department of Youth and Sports (Dispora) who consistently accompany the athletes.

“Fighting with all your heart, God is willing to be good. I believe, the athletes present here are the best sons of Cirebon City, as a result of a long construction process and the spirit of abstinence,” he added.

Meanwhile, Acting Head of Cirebon City Dispora, Edi Siswoyo, explained that the Cirebon City contingent at Popda XIV of West Java this year totaled 270 people, consisting of athletes, coaches, and officials. The athletes will compete in 17 sports, including athletics, swimming, rock climbing, taekwondo, to Tarung Derajat.

“Participation in Popda is a form of hard work and synergy of all parties. We hope that the support of the entire community of Cirebon City, so that athletes can appear confident and incised the best achievements. Hopefully the medal targets that we expect can be achieved,” he hoped. (Smok)
