Cirebon , Controversy news, Com. – The inauguration of the Commissioner of the Cirebon City Information Commission for the 2025–2029 period is an important step in maintaining consistent information openness in the region. The Cirebon City Government also reiterated its commitment to maintaining the title of Informative City which it achieved the previous year.
The five commissioners who were officially appointed included Agung Sedijono, Ibnu Abdillah, Luthfiyah Handayani, Ekky Bahtiar, and Akhmad Junaeri. The success of the commissioners through a long, transparent and measurable selection process is proof of the seriousness of the Cirebon City Government in maintaining the quality of the institution that oversees information disclosure.
“The long selection process has been passed with integrity. And today, I have high hopes that the Information Commission will further strengthen the implementation of public information disclosure in the City of Cirebon,” said the Mayor of Cirebon, Effendi Edo, Tuesday (18/11/2025).
The Mayor emphasized that the Information Commission plays a central role in guaranteeing the public’s fundamental right to information. He said that the mandate of Law Number 14 of 2008 was not only a legal obligation, but the foundation for creating transparent, clean and accountable government administration.
“The presence of the Information Commission is the guardian of good governance. This is not just a formality, but a real need to maintain public trust,” he said.
In line with increasing digital transformation, the Mayor emphasized that current public service challenges are increasingly complex. In the midst of society’s increasing need for fast and accurate information, the Information Commission is expected to be able to be adaptive and responsive. According to him, the Cirebon City Government must continue to move in line with these dynamics in order to remain relevant and trusted by the public.
The mayor then conveyed five important directions that the commissioners should pay attention to. First, strengthening the Information Commission institution as the main guardian of information disclosure in the regions, as well as being a strategic partner for the government in improving public information governance. Second, ensuring that the resolution of information disputes is professional, balanced and able to provide a sense of justice to all parties.
Third, the commissioners are asked to increase public education on an ongoing basis, both to the community and to PPID in all regional apparatus. According to him, a strong understanding of the right to information is the key to creating a culture of transparency. Fourth, the Information Commission is encouraged to make optimal use of information technology so that public services become more accessible, faster and relevant to the needs of modern society. Fifth, maintain integrity and independence in all Information Commission work processes. He added that the Cirebon City Government is ready to work in full synergy to strengthen the information openness agenda as a manifestation of serving government.
“Integrity is the foundation. Without it, public trust as the main capital cannot be upheld. I want the commissioner to make ethics and independence non-negotiable principles,” stressed the Mayor.
Chairman of the West Java Provincial Information Commission, Husni Farhani Mubarok, also expressed his appreciation for the momentum of the inauguration. He said that Cirebon City had concrete traces in the history of the formation of information disclosure institutions in Indonesia.
“In West Java, KI was only formed in Cirebon City and Regency. In fact, Cirebon City was the first city nationally to form an Information Commission. This is a very strong historical record,” he said.
Husni emphasized that Cirebon City’s dedication in organizing public information systems has been visible from year to year. The footprint is not only administrative, but also reflects the spirit of building an informative and inclusive city.
“Cirebon City has concrete and clear traces, which show consistency in organizing an informative city. Hopefully it will be able to maintain the title of Informative City,” he said.
As is known, Cirebon City succeeded in winning the Informative City Category at the West Java Provincial Public Information Openness Award in 2024. This achievement is strong evidence that efforts to fulfill the public’s right to information are not just rhetoric, but a real work agenda that continues to be realized from year to year.
