CIREBON CITY, Controversy news,.com – The Cirebon City Police Criminal Investigation Unit has again shown its seriousness in eradicating motor vehicle theft (curanmor) which is disturbing the public. This time, two of the perpetrators were successfully arrested in the Kedawung District area after a dramatic chase by officers for 16 kilometers.
Cirebon City Police Chief AKBP Eko Iskandar, SH, SIK, M.Sc. explained that the disclosure of this case began with an intensive investigation carried out by the Cirebon City Police Criminal Investigation Unit Resmob Team led by IPTU Deni Arisandi, SH, MH. This investigation was carried out following the increasing number of reports of lost motorbikes in the boarding house area in the Kedawung area.
“Our members caught two perpetrators who were about to carry out a motorbike theft in the Kedawung area. When they were about to be arrested, the perpetrators fled with the victim’s vehicle,” said AKBP Eko Iskandar when giving a statement at the Cirebon City Police Headquarters, Thursday (29/01/2026).
Seeing the perpetrator running away, the officers did not remain silent and immediately gave chase. The chase took place fiercely from the Kedawung area to Arjawinangun with a distance of approximately 16 kilometers. Finally, thanks to the alertness and persistence of the officers, the two perpetrators were stopped and arrested.
As a result of these arrests, the police arrested two perpetrators with the initials AS (24) and AA (26) along with two motorbikes which were suspected to be the proceeds of a crime of theft.
The Police Chief added that the motorbike that had been found was immediately handed over to the original owner without a penny (free)
Apart from that, officers also found another motorbike at a location suspected of being a storage place for stolen goods. Furthermore, it was discovered that the vehicle’s chassis number and engine number had been changed by the perpetrator to eliminate traces.
“The modus operandi of the perpetrators is quite neat by removing the identity of the vehicle. Currently we are still investigating it to find out the network and other possible crime scenes,” explained the Police Chief accompanied by the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Adam Gana.
In uncovering this case, the police also secured evidence in the form of a sharp sickle-type weapon that the perpetrator carried when he wanted to carry out the action. This shows that the perpetrator did not hesitate to commit acts of violence to carry out his actions.
The Police Chief emphasized that the two perpetrators were recidivists in motor vehicle theft cases and had repeatedly carried out similar actions in the jurisdiction of the Cirebon City Police.
“We will not provide space for perpetrators of street crime, especially theft which is very disturbing to the community. We will take firm action against the perpetrators of crime to provide a deterrent effect and create a sense of security for the community,” he stressed.
Head of Public Relations of the Cirebon City Police, AKP M. Aris Hermanto, added that disclosing this case was a form of the Police’s presence in providing a sense of security to the community.
“We urge the public to always be alert, use double keys when parking their vehicles, and immediately report if they find or experience a crime. Security is our shared responsibility,” said AKP Aris.
The perpetrators were charged under Article 477 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code with the threat of a maximum prison sentence of 7 years or a maximum fine of IDR 500 million. ***
