Cirebon, Kontroversinews,Com-.- The enthusiasm to build productive and creative human resources was clearly visible in the activities that took place at the Cirebon Class I State Detention Center, Tuesday (21/10/2025). The Mayor of Cirebon, Effendi Edo, attended the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the Cirebon City Government and the Cirebon Class I Detention Center, as well as handing over creation registration letters and facilitating brand registration for 10 MSMEs from the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI). This activity emphasizes that coaching residents and empowering MSMEs go hand in hand.
The Director General of Intellectual Property, Razilu, in his speech said that the Cirebon Class 1 Detention Center was considered capable of translating the spirit of the President’s Asta Cita, especially in the aspects of food security and economic independence of the inmates.
He emphasized the importance of legal protection for the work of inmates. Including a superior brand called ‘Beruci’, an acronym for Benteng Rutan Cirebon.
“This brand will later become the identity of the inmates’ agricultural, fishery and handicraft products. When people buy vegetables, processed products or crafts with the Beruci brand, they know this is the work of the nation’s children from the Cirebon Detention Center,” he said.
Razilu added that this facility provides added economic value as well as legal recognition of the creativity of the inmates.
“Education and socialization of intellectual property in detention centers is very important, so that inmates are not only legally free, but also have assets that have economic value, and can continue after being released,” he said.
On that occasion there was also the launch of the KI-REBON Center (Intellectual Property Center – Room for Education, Development and Originality for Prisoners) which is a new milestone for intellectual property rights-based development in the Cirebon Detention Center. This center functions as a space for learning, creativity and legal protection for the work of inmates.
“The KI-REBON Center in the Cirebon Detention Center can be an inspiration for other prisons and detention centers throughout Indonesia,” said Razilu.
The Mayor of Cirebon, Effendi Edo, emphasized the City Government’s support in facilitating the development of the potential of the assisted residents.
“Thank God, today we are collaborating with Rutan, supporting the registration of 10 MSME brands for free, including the Beruci brand. The synergy between the City Government and vertical agencies opens up opportunities for inmates so that when they leave they can have the skills and be economically independent,” said the Mayor.
New facilities such as a Green House, Healthy Kitchen and fish nursery are also part of productive development.
“Behind the walls of the detention center, inmates can still foster independence and creativity. Their products are ready to be marketed through the support of the City Government, for example in MSME malls and local storefronts,” added the Mayor.
The Cirebon City Government emphasizes the importance of developing intellectual property-based businesses. The first stage is assisting and protecting the work of inmates through outreach, training and workshops in detention centers. Eligible products will be facilitated with brand and copyright registration, with budget support from the local government.
The second stage, product development and marketing, emphasizes market research, packaging design and product quality to suit consumer tastes. Inmates’ products can be marketed through MSME showcases, official exhibitions, or national marketplaces. The city government also encourages ASN to buy products from inmates to support business sustainability.
The third stage focuses on the transition and continuity of the business after release. The Correctional Center will accompany the inmates to form a business group or register their business as an MSME, utilizing the brands and copyrights they already owned during the coaching.
“Today’s activities show that coaching is not just about discipline, but about opening up hope and opportunities for the inmates. We want them to return to society with economic provisions, skills and real independence,” continued the Mayor.
Synergy between the City Government, vertical agencies and the community is the key to the success of this program.
“Today we plant the seed of confidence that everyone, regardless of background, has the opportunity to grow and benefit,” added the Mayor.
The Mayor considers that the City of Cirebon can be an example of creative development based on intellectual property. From detention centers to the city’s economic development, the same spirit emerges.
“That making work is a path to independence, productivity and glory in life,” he said.
