Kuningan, Controversinews | The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Kuningan Regency Regional Government (Pemda) and the Kuningan District Attorney related to the handling of civil law and state administration issues has drawn criticism from the Joint Communication Forum for Organizations/NGOs (FK-GOL).

In his statement, Tuesday (9/23/2025), at the FK-Gol Secretariat, Nana Rusdiana S.IP (barracks) considered the MoU to potentially cause conflicts of interest. According to him, the agreement could obscure the boundaries of the prosecutor’s role as an independent supervisor and the regional government as the executive executive, so as to risk the objectivity of law enforcement.

“This MoU can cause the potential for abuse of authority and erode the independence of the prosecutor’s office,” said Nana.

He also added, the existence of the cooperation could open the space of legal politicization, where the prosecutor’s office was considered more inclined to protect the local government.

“The prosecutor’s office can look like a legal advisor as well as law enforcement. This relationship is ambiguous: On the one hand they are expected to defend the local government, but on the other hand must maintain independent justice,” he said.

Furthermore, Nana assessed that this MoU could lead to public perception that the prosecutor’s office was no longer objective, because there was a possibility that regional interests were prioritized than the interests of the state in general.

FK-GOL emphasized that the prosecutor’s office must maintain neutrality and not be trapped in the interests of local politics.

“We hope that the Prosecutor’s Office will continue to stand upright, impartially, and protect the spirit as an independent law enforcement for the public interest, not the Regional Government,” he concluded.

As a follow-up, FK-Gol plans to hold an audience and demonstration.
